I, CULTURE Orchestra is a unique initiative of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, and one of the flagship projects of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. The forming of this orchestra was inspired by such ensembles as the European Union Youth Orchestra or the West- Eastern Divan Orchestra. I, CULTURE Orchestra brings together young people from Poland and countries from Eastern Europe and the Caucasus – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The idea behind creating I, CULTURE Orchestra was to emphasize the influence of both Western and Eastern cultures on the cultural identity of Europe and to draw attention to the richness of heritage and ancient traditions of European countries from beyond the eastern borders of the European Union. The orchestra consisting of 111 musicians was created during a three-week workshop with some of the world’s most acclaimed orchestra musicians. The concert at the Lublin Concert Hall is a prelude to the European tour, during which the orchestra will perform at Europe’s most famous concert halls in Kiev, Berlin, Brussels, London, Madrid and Warsaw, conducted by Paweł Kotla and Sir Neville Marriner.
Programme of the concert:
S. Prokofiev – Scythian Suite, op. 20
K. Szymanowski – No. 4, Symphonie Concertante,
op. 60 / soloist – Peter Jablonski
D. Shostakovich – Symphony No. 5 in D minor, op. 47
