Paris, Christmas Eve, an accidental meeting that leaves a tragic imprint on the life of the main character. Marciniak efficiently transports the viewer into this reality and – as usual in his performances – takes them to the world of human emotions and non-simple stories, which force us to reflect on areas of reality beyond the stereotypical view. The shocking story contained in this performance raises questions about the banality and randomness of violence and how we build the image of other people.

The performance is the Polish premiere of the staging of a book by Édouard Louis – the star of the young generation of French writers, one of the most widely read authors on the Seine.

Ewelina Marciniak – graduated in European studies and drama at the Jagiellonian University and drama directing at the State Higher School of Theater in Krakow. Since her debut in 2008, she has been counted among the most important creators of contemporary Polish theater. She collaborated with the most important Polish theaters, received many awards for her theatrical work, incl. Polityka’s Passport in 2015 and the prestigious German theater award Der Faust in 2020. Her most important productions include: Amateurs E. Jelinek (Wybrzeże Theater in Gdańsk), Death and Girl (Teatr Polski in Wrocław), Morfina S. Twardoch (The S. Wyspiański Silesian Theater in Katowice) and The Books of Jacob by O. Tokarczuk (The Z. Hübner Powszechny Theater in Warsaw). Since 2016, she has also been working in Germany, where she directed, among others, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and King S. Twardoch in Hamburg. The performances were positively received by the German theater press.

Édouard Louis – actually Eddy Bellegueule, comes from northern France. His first autobiographical novel, Koniec z Eddym, was an incredible success – the author, at the age of 22, received his first ever nomination for the Goncourt Prize, one of the most prestigious literary awards in the world. The debut novel has sold over 300,000 copies in France and has been published abroad in 25 languages.
