Two new curators contributed to the shape of this year’s edition: Łukasz Drewniak – founder and first editor-in-chief of Gazeta Teatralna “Didaskalia”; artistic director of the Krakow Theatre Reminiscences (2002-2005), a long-time theatre reviewer of ‘Tygodnik Powszechny’, ‘Przekrój’ and ‘Dziennik. Gazeta prawna”, and Wojciech Majcherek – journalist, theatre critic, lecturer; a long-term editor of the “Teatr” monthly and 50 recordings and broadcasts of theatrical performances made for TVP Kultura (2005-2013).

It was Łukasz Drewniak who discovered the work of Jan Mikulášek for us. He is Czech theatre director who is currently running one of the most interesting theatre scenes in the country on the Vltava river- in the consistent opinion of the critics and the public – the Prague Divadlo Na zábradlí. We will have a unique opportunity to see three of his performances.

However, this year’s Konfrontacje Teatralne will open with an exceptional performance by another great director – Ivan Vyrypayev. His “Uncle Vanya” made at the Polish Theater in Warsaw in the star cast (Andrzej Seweryn, Maciej Stuhr, Karolina Gruszka) will be seen on the stage of the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin.

The Polish part of the Konfrontacje program also features a mini-review of the Komuna//Warszawa shows – undoubtedly one of the most interesting theatrical centers in the country. The program of this year’s Festival is filled with strong names: Wyrypajew, Kleczewska, Piaskowski, Smolar, Opryński.

For the first time, as part of the festival, directing students from the Krakow and Warsaw theatre academies will present their workshop work. We will check how the youngest generation puts the first steps in the theatre. At the same time, we will see where the theatre will go in the coming years.

23rd Konfrontacje Teatralne are a real festival celebration, which is why the festival takes place in various city spaces: Centre for Culture in Lublin, Centre for the Meeting of Cultures, Juliusz Osterwa Theatre, Teatr Stary and Labyrinth Gallery.
