Lithuanian programme
This year is a special moment in the history of Lublin due to the 450th anniversary of signing the Union of Lublin this year and the 15th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union. Throughout the summer in Lublin, a series of events took place to commemorate and celebrate this event, the program of celebrations “From the Lublin Union to the European Union” included the organization of a number of cultural events.
Konfrontacje Teatralne Festival joined in the celebrations by preparing a rich programme focusing on the work of artists from Lithuania. His Excellency, the Ambassador of Lithuania in Poland, Mr. Eduardas Borisovas, has kindly granted his Honorary Patronage over the 24th edition of the Festival. Lithuanian artists will present their craftsmanship and rich artistic output to the Lublin’s audience. Mrs. Rasa Rimickaitė, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Poland, has also provided significant assistence and support in the presentations of the Lithuanian programme.
Over the years, Lithuanian artists have repeatedly visited the Festival, and its 5th edition in 2000 was a focus on the Lithuanian theatre scene.
Returning for the 3rd time to our Festival this year is Meno Fortas theatre with one of the last performances directed by the renown Eimuntas Nekrošius, „Zinkas”, made together with the State Youth Theatre. Two accompanying events will complement this presentation – one is the film “Eimuntas Nekrošius: Pushing the Horizon Further”, a personal reflection by Audronis Liuga on the artistic path of the legendary director. The other the exhibition “Meno fortas of Eimuntas Nekrošius” prepared by the director’s long-time collaborators. The exhibition will premiere in Naples in June and in October the audience of the Festival will have a unique opportunity to see it for the first time in Poland. Festival Konfrontacje Teatralne is a co-producer of the exhibition made by Meno Fortas.
Another highlight of the programme will be the presentation of the play “The Near Town” by the Latvian National Theatre from Riga, a staging of the comedy by Marius Ivaskevicius. Presentations of both performances will be followed by meetings with the makers, hosted by the Festival’s curators. The Lithuanian program will be complemented by the presentation of the “Trans Trans Trance” by OKT/Vilnius city theatre.
