Attis Theatre has elaborated a unique method of working with ancient texts. Some of Theodoros Terzopoulos productions are considered to be the world achievements in the area. The scale of emotions they convey and the insightful interpretation of the ancient Greek theatre form the identity of the company. Like in their previous productions, Sophocles’ drama constitutes only a point of departure. It is not approached as a finished text which cannot be interfered with. Attis Theatre concentrates on the episode when Ajax is torn by emotions, goes mad and cruelly kills animals, thinking they are his enemies. Ajax the Madness is a result of studies on betrayal, insanity, revenge, suicide and a sense of guilt, entirely absent in the modern world. Three actors talk about Ajax and his murders, get identified with him, and then turn into his victims, asking one fundamental question: What is it all about?
