Fahrenheit 451 is a 1966 science fiction film directed by François Truffaut. Based on the novel of the same name by Ray Bradbury, the film takes place in the future, where the written word is forbidden. In this future world, you are not allowed to read books, as they distract you from watching television and participating in organised screenings. Having books and reading them is considered a crime. Firemen are employed not to fight fires (most houses are built of non-combustible materials), but rather to seek out and destroy all hidden literature. The title refers to the temperature at which book-paper catches fire and burns, according to the author of the film. The main character, a fireman Guy Montag, meets a girl, Clarisse, who makes him question his job. He begins to hide books in his house and read them, which leads to a conflict with his wife, whose life is governed by The Family, a TV series.
