One of the most important voices in the heated debate about Polish political theatre. Without any sentiments Marcin Liber exposes all Polish vices and elements of our history we would like to hide by presenting one-dimensional tragic images of our past, although they force themselves out of the closet from time to time. We accept shameful crimes committed by Armia Krajowa (Home Army) or Polish citizens who took part in the Holocaust, and at the same time we take pride in our great defeats and tragedies.

The performance, based on texts by three great authors (Małgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk, Magda Fertacz and Sylwia Chutnik), is a clever and provocative response to the acclaimed “(A)pollonia” by Krzysztof Warlikowski (presented at “Theatre Confrontations” in 2010). We needed someone to put an end to this pompous tone and debunk the myths about Polish history to be able to start breathing again.

“III Furies” won Marcin Liber the main prize at the 14. “Interpretations” Festival of Directing Art in Katowice. Starting with a very strong interpretation of “Lily-Rosy Slaughterhouse” staged at the Stara Rzeźnia, Liber consequently works on his own theatre language and repeats the success with all of his plays presented at the Malta Festival, independent and repertory theatres in Warsaw, Szczecin, Wałbrzych and Legnica, among others. Crossing the boundaries between different art forms, he invites acclaimed independent artists working in the field of music, visual arts and video art to collaborate on his projects. The maturity of his recent performances makes him the one to watch in future.
