This balls-to-the-wall drag cabaret is hosted by Martha Graham Cracker, who is, perhaps, the world’s tallest and hairiest drag queen. A cult club performer in New York, the star of Joe’s Pub. A great drag cabaret and a phenomenal concert for the first time in Poland.
Martha Graham Cracker, hailed as “The Drag Queen King” by the American press, performs new arrangements and mashups of songs by artists ranging from Prince and Crowded House to Motley Crue and Nina Simone, and a bit of everything in between. If your idea of a drag show involves lip-synching, this is not that.
Martha Graham Cracker is played by Dito van Reigersberg, co-founding co-artistic director of the Obie-winning Pig Iron Theatre Company, a physical theatre company that has created 30 original pieces in its 19-year history; Pig Iron has toured to Lublin 4 times. Dito has performed in almost all of Pig Iron’s productions since 1995, including the OBIE-winning original pieces “Hell Meets Henry Halfway” (based on Witold Gombrowicz’s “Possessed”) and “Chekhov Lizardbrain”. He has also performed as Hedwig for Azuka Theatre Company and as a gay Alceste in “The Misanthrope” for Mauckingbird Theatre Company. The character was born in van Reigersberg’s New York City kitchen when he was attending the Martha Graham School of Dance.
Martha Graham-Cracker, is pleased to meet you. Her monthly cabaret series at L’Etage in Philadelphia has been running for over 9 years now, and is showing no signs of slowing down. From inventing a new form of exercise – bar-top Pilates – to channeling Chaka Khan, to making her shameless sexual advances on hapless audience members, she is a revolution in a wig.Along with her tight band, she has performed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Joe’s Pub in New York City, The Trocadero Theatre, and the Mayor’s Reception Room in City Hall.
