How to live? Philosophy in the street.
We always suffered from parting with the festival audience for a whole year, witnessing an idea of this encounter fading away. Therefore we brought into existence the Open Stage of Confrontations. Every month we present theatre performances followed by sessions called “How to live”. The cycle originated from an encounter with prof Gadacz, the author of an unusual book “On the Skill of Living”
„One needs to know how to live – writes Gadacz – for often we do not know how to live. A good life is a skill (…) hardly anybody has mastered the skill of living (…) Thinking is a prerequisite of a skilled life.” We decided to call our cycle “How to live” and felt that it should go out into the street. For the street does not have to be just a place of political posters, fun, advertising. Wisdom can enter the streets and buildings.
We asked professor Gadacz to prepare selected aphorisms by great philosophers, in turn they ‘made comments on our town’. In the old days our ancestors placed wise sentences on public edifices so that a passerby, that fast runner occupied with the worldly matters, could stop, read and meditate.
This is the meaning of our action ‘Philosophy in the street’.
