Playwrights’ Arena was founded in 1992. It is run by the director Jon Lawrence Rivera. The major interest of the company is to discover, create and put on stage plays written by Los Angeles writers. It provides a space for local playwrights where their plays can mature for stage through reading, workshops and discussions. In this way uncompromising texts originate, the ones, which do not only provoke to think, but also touch upon feelings and emotions. Throughout its seven years’ career the company has won a number of prizes, including Drama Logue Award, Garland Award, and Maddy Award in 2000.
