Teatr Ósmego Dnia is an uncompromising theatre company formulating sharp diagnoses and clear accusations, always demanding freedom, both on an individual and social level. The Time of Mothers is an attempt of looking at the tragic history of the 20th century through women’s eyes. It is a performance about conception, birth, first steps, games and painful introduction into adulthood. This great performance, taking place on three stages, employs fully perfected technique of open-air theatre, but transgresses it at the same time, using video projections and mobile sets. There is the biology and mystery of life, suffering of mothers, accusations directed at the world, a sharp political and social concrete – photographs of mothers who lost their children in the world conflicts. They are mothers of Polish June ‘56, Argentinean mothers from May Square and Soldiers’ Mothers from Russia. “Modern times are created by mothers, more and more visible, wonderful, colourful and heroic. Taking the problems of the world into their hands they become an icon of our times” – the artists say. The performance was realised thanks to the financial support of the Poznañ Municipal Office, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (Promoting Art Operational Program)
