Arpaaad Theatre is a company of young people, mostly from Napoli, who have experimented with film and theatre for several years. Pursing their interests in new theatrical forms, apart from producing performances, they realize a programme of theatrical education. The Wedding is a ‘premiere laboratory’ based on Witold Gombrowicz’s text produced for the 9th edition of „Theatre Confrontations’. This is how they introduce their performance: In Gombrowicz’s ‘The Wedding’ we do not explore the issue of a form as such because it has been completely exploited by theater companies in southern Europe. We are interested in the very character of Henryk. We want to demonstrate sources of his desperation, desperate vitality, which from our Italian perspective is symptomatic of the way living and functioning of the young generation. A grotesque form of violence used by Henryk has its roots in his heart. All that provides food for a free spirit in a struggle against the sanctioned order. However, will it do to rescue Henryk from his solitude?”
