The Wiliam Horzyca Theatre from Toruń presents its premiere performance of „The Wedding” directed by the Estonian director Elmo Nüganen. The premiere is unusual for a number of reasons. The Toruñ company, known for their highly acclaimed productions (including bravado performance of „Wozzeck“), entered into collaboration with Vladas Bagdonas, renowned for many phenomenal roles in the performances of Eimuntas Nekrošius’ Meno Fortas Theatre (Othello, Ghost of Hamlet’s Father in the memorable „Hamlet“ – enthusiasctically received at the 6th edition of „Theatre Confrontations“ in 2001). In „The Wedding“ he plays a character of Father. This performance is an artistic encounter resulting from the cooperation of the Wiliam Horzyca Theatre, an organizer of the Kontakt Festival, where all most significant productions of the Meno Fortas Theatre were presented, and „Theatre Confrontations“ Festival in Lublin. It is also a meeting point of three Eastern European cultures – Polish, Estonian and Lithuanian, which – in spite of their proximity – represent different forms and different sensitivity. All artists agree that it is a performance about man who wants to regain his purity and love and revive them in people surrounding him. He tries to accomplish it through a form. It is also about man who rebels against his mother, father, society and God; who totally rejects ‚the old’. This man gets into a culde- sac and finally realises his tragic mistake. It is a performance about lost and rebellious.modern man who renounces God and is subjected to „fashionable trends’.
