Outdoor Opening
On Saturday October 5th at 6.30 pm we will open the 24th edition of the Konfrontacje Teatralne. This year, we will begin with the presentation of the outdoor performance Silence by Biuro Podróży Theatre.
Admission to the event is free.
The performance, which was commissioned by Greenwich+Docklands International Festival/London and Hull UK City of Culture 2017 / Freedom Festival, in co-production with GDIF, has already been presented in numerous European cities. The Theatre is coming to us straight from their tour in Spain.
Silence, an open-air performance that will be staged at the beginning of the Theatre Confrontations refers to the first Festival, opened by presentations in Zamkowy Square (e.g. The Ark by the Theatre of the Eighth Day) that were not only visually stunning but imparted a hard-hitting social message as well.
Taking this opportunity, it’s worth mentionig that Konfrontacje Fesival was the forerunner of outdoor shows in Lublin – performances at the end of the 90s were held on the streets of the city center, the squares of the Old Town, on the Zamkowy square and the grounds near the Lublin Castle. The festival has used many non-theatrical spaces in Lublin, which were arranged especially for the needs of the Festival long before this became a common trend present at many summer events. Most unusual locations serves as venue for festival presentation, including the basement of the Centre for Culture Culture, the Polmos vodka factory hall (today’s Stock), Lublin Horse Club grounds, the almost abandoned Lublin North railway station, the Railway Technical School in Lublin, the Theatre under Construction and its current incarnation, Center for the Meetings of Cultures in Lublin as well as the halls of the International Lublin Fairs.
