The performance is a collective attempt to create a new European epic co-written by 14 playwrights from such countries as: Sweden, England, Latvia, Russia, Belarus, Turkey, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Romania, Macedonia, France, Spain, and the United States. “Eurepica. Challenge” is one of a kind project that uses the language of theatre as a tool to describe social and political ideas as well as the challenges that the citizens of the European Union and its neighbours are now facing. The performance investigates also the way our national notions, weather they are true or false, influence our perception of the world. Sergey Nevski, a Russian composer living in Germany, took up the challenge of composing a New European Anthem. Combining many languages with live music he created a unique polyphonic sound structure.

In Belarus, all theatres are controlled by the state and the artists are nominated by the Minister of Culture. Although the members of Belarus Free Theatre lost their positions in Belarusian state theatres, the team of actors has remained the same for six years. The aim of the group is to be in opposition to the government and set theatre “free”. The theatre is recognized and awarded around the world. In 2011 they were nominated to the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience for their performance „Being Harold Pinter”. This year they received a prestigious Off-Broadway Theatre Award.
