Russian Drama Theatre in Riga (Latvia)King and Jester
What does one think about in a condemned cell? How does a condemned person talk to a dead one? Who puts on the mask of a jester and who puts on the mask of a king? The motto of the performance is “The dead want to talk with the living even more than the living with the dead. They have more to say to them, too”. It seems true in case of main protagonists – the dead Mikhail and Zuski who waits for an execution. Their figures and dialogues correspond to the theatrical archetypes of King and Jester. The content of the performance avoids getting an insight into the past and focuses on the analysis of feelings and moral dilemmas of the protagonists.
