Tanto Theatre was founded by Susanne Tabaka Pillhofer and Jan Tabaka, its origins being rooted in the tradition of Polish experimental theatre. They derive inspiration from Grotowski’s Theatre Laboratorium and their cooperation with Gardzienice, Centre for Theatre Practices Susanne and Jan were members of the company in the eighties. Their performances do not only contain a verbal structure, but also rhythm, music, expression of body and gesture. Dance, body language and visual imagery are significant means of expression they employ. ‘The Deserted Place’ is a sound of life in the theatre of memory. In the microcosms of our existence each gesture and word have their specific meaning and expression. A sense of happiness slips away when we are about to get hold of it. Therefore we have to rewind the tape of life to try to understand this strange adventure that takes place between birth and death.
